Thank you for visiting the website of the Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association! This is both an exciting and daunting time to work in the field of public education. Surrounded by the noise of fake news, real-time social media reporting, and the ever-widening grey area that exists between journalism and editorial – our role as communications professionals and leaders is more important than ever.
As an organization designed to represent school communicators, I, along with my executive board, take our role in providing professional development, expertise, and support very seriously. We too have to change and evolve to help you meet the varied demands of your work. Whether a superintendent, communications director, principal, or other school staff member – we at PenSPRA are working hard to bring you the best return on the investment you have made in us by becoming a member.
To that end, we are committed to explore some exciting new opportunities!
= Creating strategic partnerships with other professional organizations, including sending members of our executive team to lead workshops and trainings for school boards, superintendents, and other school administrators.
= Increasing the “at the ready” resources that exist on our website, and creating opportunities for online learning to remove barriers for members who find it challenging to attend conferences and meetings.
= Increasing our membership in order to expand our base of support and range of services.
Perhaps most importantly, our goal is to elevate and promote the role of the school communications professional as a critical member of the district’s school leadership team. As the financial resources of public schools continue to be threatened, PenSPRA will work to send the message that quality, expert, efficient school communications has a direct impact on generating positive support for schools, students, and teachers.
Since joining PenSPRA almost 20 years ago, I have learned that my PenSPRA colleagues are here for me, and that taking an active role in the organization has made me a more confident, effective communicator and administrator. I encourage you to get the most out of your membership by reaching out to me, or any member of the executive team with suggestions or feedback that can help us improve the service we provide.
It is my honor to serve as the president of PenSPRA, and to represent such a dedicated, talented group of professionals. Please do not hesitate to call on me or any member of your PenSPRA family!
