PenSPRA is very proud to partner with PSBA, PSEA, PAIU, PASA and the PA Principals to launch a new public awareness campaign about the success of Pennsylvania’s public schools. The “Success Starts Here” campaign is a multi-year statewide effort to share the positive news about public education through advertising, web, social media, traditional media and word-of-mouth with the goal of raising understanding of the value of public education in Pennsylvania. This campaign is a wonderful opportunity for PenSPRA members to share the great stories from your district with a statewide audience.
The “Success Starts Here” campaign is based on significant public opinion research performed last year. If you are interested in reviewing the information, you can find a summary here.
The campaign relies on story-telling, not persuasion. The research indicated that many people believe public education used to be good, but this campaign will demonstrate that they are good today. The research also indicated, as we have noted before, that the closer you are to public education, the higher your perception is.
Based on pre-campaign surveying, the core messages of the campaign will be:
- PA public schools provide a foundation for college, careers, and life (mission)
- PA public schools have higher than average test scores / graduation rates (performance)
- PA public schools serve all students regardless of ability (equity).
The most important part of the campaign is the stories schools share on the campaign’s website – www.SuccessStartsHere.org. Schools are partners in bringing this campaign to life. Each school entity has a page on the campaign website allowing them to post stories of success. In order for the Success Starts Here campaign to grow, we need your districts to share your stories by completing our online form found on the Success Starts Here website. It should be easy and quick for you to share the stories you are already using in your district with the campaign. Stories should speak of current strengths, innovations, accomplishments.
Use of social media will help drive this campaign to all corners of the state. The campaign hashtag will be #PASuccess. Success stories posted on the website will have a feature to easily share them through Twitter, Facebook or email. The campaign also will have an Instagram account at SuccessStartsHerePA.
The Success Starts Here campaign has the potential to reach hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania residents with positive messages about public education, and as school PR professionals we are the gatekeepers of these messages. We highly encourage all our members to support the campaign, and as always, reach out to Karen or Greg with any questions.
Success Starts Here!
